When we feel exhausted we often have no problem lying down and resting our bodies but do we ever rest our minds? Stop the chatter and thoughts that are constant. Even when we sleep our minds are not resting, the dreams that you have are your subconscious replaying events and solving problems. Meditation helps block out negative thoughts and feelings, past hurts, reactions to conflicts, nervous energy and agitation. Without meditation we tend to react to situations that lead to confusion and anxiety. Meditation once learned is a simple but an effective tool to assist with daily living.
There are many books on meditation and groups that you can join. Meditation does not have to be all consuming, if you find it difficult to clear your mind you can get a talking book that will guide you through a meditation. Even if you spend five minutes a day immersing yourself in a piece of music and letting go of all thoughts of the day to come this will over time will help with anxieties, as your mind will recognise the music and relax.
With Christmas and New Year coming up this could be the secret weapon to help with the stress and pressure that usually comes hand in hand with these celebrations. Meditation is a means of transforming the mind and gaining control therefore leading to peace and tranquillity.
