Book Review
The White Magic Five and Dime
I just finished a fun, fiction, murder mystery involving a tarot shop. The writer of this tale is Steve Hockensmith the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
This book is about a woman named Alanis McLauchlan a sarcastic, comical and skeptical woman who is estranged from her mother – a career con-artist. Alanis has been notified that her mother has passed away and has left her an inheritance of a Tarot business – of which she is sure is just another of her mother’s cons. Alanis travels to Arizona and becomes acquainted with the towns people in order to figure out how her mother passed away. In the process she finds more meaning in the Tarot cards than she has ever expected.
This book is filled with interesting characters; a very handsome policeman who wants to help Alanis find answers, a live in teenager and apprentice to her mother’s business, some very angry customers, some very grateful customers, a jealous barista and a rival business across the street owned by a very wise woman. A charming novel, filled with twists and tarot readings. I highly recommend this fun book.
I give it 4 STARS!!!
