Redemption
Lying in bed I listen
To the soft sounds of the rain
Cleansing away the world outside
Can it wash away my pain?
I rise and go to my window
Silvery rivers obscure my sight
Liquid drops of redemption
Glow like jewels in reflected light
I breathe in deep the cool clean air
Earthy scents dance with the mist
And with the sigh of life renewed
My soul can no longer resist
Barefoot in the grass I wander
As the healing drops touch my skin
If I stand beneath them long enough
Will they wash away my sin
Can it wash away the shadows
That cling to my broken soul
And fill up all the emptiness
That keeps me from feeling whole
I throw back my head with a silent prayer
As the rain washes over my face
And stand there until I am washed clear
of every shadow...every trace.
