In times of old as the wheel of Mother earth turned and the nights grew shorter, the Slavic people would sit by the fire, watching their yule log burn and would tell the tale of a goddess called Saulee.
During this passage of darkness, it was important for them to remember their Mother Goddess, as she was the goddess of light, and a reminder that their darkness was temporary and that the light would soon return to the earth once more.
As they gazed into the flames they would tell of her annual journey across the heavens, undertaken on that longest of winter nights, the solstice.
In hushed tones full of reverence and wonder they would speak of her brightness as she sat regally surrounded by furs in sleigh pulled across the night sky by a female reindeer. Majestically blazing a trail of hope and promise that cut through the darkness far brighter than any star could ever hope to shine, pausing from time to time over the villages below so that she could shower them with pebbles of amber as a gift of prosperity and protection for all!
May I take this opportunity to wish all of you those same gifts during this magical festive season and beyond into the New Year!
Love and light Maria
