What are chakras and why are they so important?
How many of you have heard of the ‘Subtle Body?’ Those that have done Reiki and other healing courses will more than likely know what I mean, but it basically means ‘the non-physical part’ of us. The concept of Chakras has been around for centuries, they are not a recent discovery.
There are seven chakras that are the energy organs of the subtle body. The subtle body is therefore seen as the combination of the energies that flow in and all around the physical body. The energy that the chakra creates is called Prana.
The seven chakras are the main parts of the energy that flows, with each one seen as a wheel. In fact, Chakra does mean wheel.
The chakra, or wheel, is where the body and the unconscious mind meet and when the chakras are open and clear, you should feel good about yourself, both body and mind.
Each chakra represents the physical body and mind. Like the old saying “You are what you eat,” your words and actions are a representation of your inner self. There is some truth to this, as your chakras are affected by what you put into your body and what you give out. We can absorb other factors that affect us. I will cover the purpose of each chakra in a later blog.
The chakras run along the central part of our body in a line. They must be open and clear for us to function peacefully and happily. When they become blocked it will make us feel uneasy and not at one with the world.
By having a healthy set of chakras, the idea is that the mind and body will be at ease with one another and with the broader world.
I hope this gives you a basic understanding of chakras. Please look out for my future blog on the seven chakras and what their individual functions are!
