Candle Gazing Meditation

Candle Gazing Meditation.

We have all heard of meditation and all kinds of visualisations are conjured up of how this is done.

But how many of you have heard of Candle Gazing Meditation?

Obviously, you will need a candle and a nice comfortable seat.   For safety I also recommend that you put the candle on a nice flat surface in a safe holder so no fire risk. Position it so that it is no more than three feet away from you and it should be as close to eye level as you can get it when you are seated. A coffee table works great for this.

Light the candle and sit down with your palms turned up on your knees. Holding a good straight posture, close your eyes and breathe in and out several times, focusing on relaxing your body. Slowly open your eyes and look at the flame of the candle. I always soften my gaze when doing this.  As you do this, let all thoughts leave your mind, gently floating away. Without thinking about anything else, take your focus back to the flame of the candle.

Don’t take your eyes off of the flame of the candle, but of course blink if you need to.

Now close your eyes again and see if you can visualise the candle flame in your mind.  Let the peaceful feelings that come from this wash over you and sink in to every fibre of your being.

Open your eyes again, still enjoying the peace this meditation brings to you.

You can stay like that as long as you wish for, but sometimes just a few minutes is enough to quieten the mind and bring peace around you. When you are ready to end the meditation, rub your hands together and place them gently over your eyes. Feel the warmth from your hands and when good and ready, take them away and come back into this dimension.  Finally, don’t forget to blow the candle out!

This meditation is simply to quieten the mind and bring some peace to you. I hope you enjoy it.
